ROYAL RAJASTHAN AND VARANASI

21 Days/ 20 Nights (DELHI / MANDAWA / BIKANER / JAISALMER / JODHPUR / RANAKPUR / UDAIPUR / PUSHKAR / JAIPUR / AGRA / ORCHHA / KHAJURAHO VARANASI)

The best that North India has to offer is available on this tour. From the majestic palaces and rugged forts, spectacular deserts, vibrant towns and quiet villages of Rajasthan to the ruins of ancient dynasties to the worlds oldest (and holiest) living city and including the majesty of the Taj Mahal, this tour is the Essential India.

DAY 1
ARRIVE  DELHI 
Our driver will be there to meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Your evening will be free to take advantage of the complimentary Ayurvedic Massage we provide to counter jetlag and relax you.

DAY 2 
DELHI 
Delhi is not just one city but many cities in one. There are a myriad of ways to explore Delhi but today we would suggest a trip to Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) where you can visit the Red Fort and Jama Masjid. You may like to wander around the bustling bazaar of Chandni Chowk, or take a thrilling ride in a cycle rickshaw. Later in the day see New Delhi. Designed by the British architect Lyuttens, New Delhi is often referred to as Lyutten’s Delhi. Drive through the tree lined avenues of Lyuttens Delhi passing the Rastrapathi Bhawan and India Gate to visit Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar, tallest stone tower in India and legacy of the Humayun Era.

DAY 3
DELHI – MANDAWA

A five hour journey through rural Rajasthan will bring you to the famous Outdoor Art Gallery of Shekhawati.  In Mandawa you will be able to wander around this charming village of painted havelis, where frescoes tell an intriguing tale of the history of this once thriving trading stop on the Spice Route.

DAY 4
MANDAWA – BIKANER
200 KM / 4 H

Rural Rajasthan opens into the thriving city of Bikaner. The impenetrable Bikaner Fort is a delight, with many palaces contained within showing exquisite examples of mirror work and inlaid marble. Outside the city, visit Deshnok Karni Mata temple where the souls of dead story tellers are said to embody the many rats who are considered sacred and under the protection of Karni Mata. Camel Breeding Farm (closed on Sundays).

DAY 5
BIKANER – KHURI (JAISALMER)

Drive to Khuri village via Kechan and Phalodi, where you will experience the heartwarming hospitality of a genuine Rajasthani village. Your host will provide a camel safari. In the evening there is a Rajasthani folk dance with traditional musicians and a delicious Rajasthani meal.

KHURI / JAISALMER**

A short drive to the city of Jaisalmer where you will check into your hotel and be free to explore Jaisalmer Fort, the crowning glory of the Golden City.

JAISALMER – JODHPUR

Drive to Jodhpur, the blue city. After checking into your hotel, visit the hauntingly beautiful Mehrangarh Fort, the Citadel of the Sun. From here you can look out over the Blue City.

JODHPUR – UDAIPUR

En route to Udaipur there is time to visit the exquisitely carved marble Jain temples of Ranakpur and Kumbalgarh fort.

UDAIPUR 
Udaipur is the most romantic city in Rajasthan. Popularly known as the Venice of the East, the City of Lakes sightseeing take in the City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Baghore ki Haveli, Saheliyon ki Bari or Garden of Maids.

DAY 10
UDAIPUR – PUSHKAR

Drive to Pushkar via Chittorgarh fort. Pushkar Lake is named for the lotus that fell from the hand of the creator god Brahma, the town boasts the only temple devoted to Brahma in India. Stroll around the lake in the evening and watch the sunset over the picturesque town, check out the markets or visit Brahma temple.

PUSHKAR – JAIPUR

Morning after leisurely breakfast drive to the Pink City, Jaipur. Explore the colourful and bustling local Rajasthani baazars of the Pink City like, Baapu bazaar and Johri Baazar.

DAY 12
JAIPUR 
Morning is the best time to take an elephant ride to Amber Fort, on the outskirts of the city. Spend the afternoon exploring the old city taking in the Hawa Mahal (palace of winds), City Palace, Jantar Mantar Observatory, and Royal Gaitore.

DAY 13
JAIPUR – AGRA
250 KM / 5 H
 
En route to Agra, visit Bharatpur (Bird’s national park) and the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri. Visit the Taj Mahal for an unforgettable sunset viewing of this “tear drop on the ocean of time”.(TAJ IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY).

DAY 14
AGRA – ORCHHA
300 KM / 6 H
Morning visit the fabulous Taj Mahal at sunrise & drive to Orchha. Orchha (“hidden place”) is a medieval village dominated by the charming sandstone palace ruins of the Bundela dynasty. 
On arrival check in hotel. Later sight seeing of Orchha.

DAY 15
ORCHHA – KHAJURAHO
180 KM / 5 H
Morning sight seeing of Orchha. Later drive to Khajuraho, to visit the immaculately restored erotic temples of the Chandela Dynasty. The exquisite symmetry of the temples was made possible because of the soft sandstone used in their construction. Much of the sculpture is in such high relief as to appear three dimensional.
On arrival check in hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 17
KHAJURAHO – VARANASI
400 KM / 8 H 
After a leisurely breakfast drive to Varanasi, the oldest living city in the world! Varanasi sits on the shores of the River Ganga, the holiest River in India. Varanasi is the city of light, it’s waterfront is dominated by long flghts of steps (known as Ghats) where hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and residents come for their daily ritual abulutions. It is also a city of musicians and culture, or as the locals call it “The city of learning and burning”.Hindus believe that to die in Varanasi is to attain moksha or eternal liberation from the round of life and death.

DAY 18
VARANASI 
Wake in the early morning to watch the sun rise over the River Ganga, take a boat ride to witness the early morning activity on the Ghats. After breakfast there is time for a city tour  including Ramnagar Fort, Jantar Mantar, Bharat Kala Bhavan, BHU campus. In the evening watch the enthralling prayer service (Arti) performed by priests at the bank of river Ganges.

DAY 19
VARANASI TO DELHI 
OVERNIGHT ON TRAIN
After breakfast drive to Sarnath, a small deer park strewn with ruins and a place of pilgrimmage to Buddhists. It is here in this quiet grove that the Buddha gave his first sermon and set in motion the “Wheel of Law’ or dharma.. Evening transfer to Varanasi train station to catch a train for Delhi.

DAY 20
ARRIVE DELHI 
Early morning on arrival in Delhi pick up from Delhi train station and transfer to Delhi hotel (room subject to availability check in time 10 Am – 12 Noon)
Later sightseeing Delhi.

DELHI DEPARTURE 
In time transfer to airport to connect flight to onwards destination.
