GOLDEN TRIANGLE AND VARANASI

12 Days/ 11 Nights (DELHI / JAIPUR / AGRA / ORCHHA / KHAJURAHO / VARANASI)

A must visit circuit in North India where you get to see culture and tradition in full splendor. Ancient and modern India mix it up in Delhi while a short drive away the evocative Taj Mahal stands impervious to time. Visit the erotic temples of Khajuraho, the hidden ruins of Orchha and the ancient city of Varanasi, the City of Light.

DAY 1
ARRIVE DELHI 
Our driver will be there to meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Your evening will be free to take advantage of the complimentary Ayurvedic Massage we provide to counter jetlag and relax you.

DAY 2
DELHI 
Delhi is not just one city but many cities in one. There are a myriad of ways to explore Delhi but today we would suggest a trip to Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) where you can visit the Red Fort and Jama Masjid. You may like to wander around the bustling bazaar of Chandni Chowk, or take a thrilling ride in a cycle rickshaw. Later in the day see New Delhi. Designed by the British architect Lyuttens, New Delhi is often referred to as Lyutten’s Delhi. Drive through the tree lined avenues of Lyuttens Delhi passing the Rastrapathi Bhawan and India Gate to visit Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar, tallest stone tower in India and legacy of the Humayun Era.

DAY 3
DELHI – JAIPUR (250 KM / 5 H)
Morning after leisurely breakfast drive to the Pink City, Jaipur. Jaipur is the capital city of the colourful and exotic state of Rajasthan, and was designed by the Maharajah Jai Singh II in consultation with astrologers and architects when he moved his city from Amber on the outskirts of what is now the modern city of Jaipur. Explore the colourful and bustling local Rajasthani baazars of the Pink City.

DAY 4
JAIPUR
Morning is the best time to take an elephant ride to Amber Fort, take an elephant ride to the top. Spend the afternoon exploring the old city taking in the Hawa Mahal (palace of winds), City Palace, Jantar Mantar Observatory, and Royal Gaitore.
Overnight in Jaipur

DAY 5
JAIPUR – AGRA (250 KM / 5 H)
En route to Agra, visit the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri. Visit the Taj Mahal for an unforgettable sunset viewing of this “tear drop on the ocean of time”.
(TAJ IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY).

DAY 6
AGRA – ORCHHA (300 KM / 6 H)
After breakfast a visit to Red Fort, a superlative example of Mughal architecture before driving to Orchha via Gwalior. Orchha (“hidden place”) is a medieval village dominated by the charming sandstone palace ruins of the Bundela dynasty.

DAY 7
ORCHHA – KHAJURAHO (180 KM / 3 H)
Morning after breakfast drive to Khajuraho, to visit the immaculately restored erotic temples of the Chandela Dynasty. The exquisite symmetry of the temples was made possible because of the soft sandstone used in their construction. Much of the sculpture is in such high relief as to appear three dimensional.
On arrival check in hotel before visiting the temples.

DAY 8
KHAJURAHO – VARANASI (400 KM / 8 H)
After a leisurely breakfast drive to Varanasi, the oldest living city in the world! Varanasi sits on the shores of the River Ganga, the holiest River in India. Varanasi is the city of light, it’s waterfront is dominated by long flghts of steps (known as Ghats) where hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and residents come for their daily ritual abulutions. It is also a city of musicians and culture, or as the locals call it “The city of learning and burning”.Hindus believe that to die in Varanasi is to attain moksha or eternal liberation from the round of life and death. On arrival Varanasi check in hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 9
VARANASI
Wake in the early morning to watch the sun rise over the River Ganga, take a boat ride to witness the early morning activity on the Ghats. After breakfast there is time for a city tour  including Ramnagar Fort, Jantar Mantar, Bharat Kala Bhavan, BHU campus. In the evening watch the enthralling prayer service (Arti) performed by priests at the bank of river Ganges.

DAY 10
VARANASI 
After breakfast drive to Sarnath, a small deer park strewn with ruins and a place of pilgrimmage to Buddhists. It is here in this quiet grove that the Buddha gave his first sermon and set in motion the “Wheel of Law’ or dharma.

DAY 11
VARANASI – DELHI
OVERNIGHT TRAIN 
Morning at leisure. Evening connect overnight train to Delhi.

ARRIVE DELHI
DEPARTURE 
Early morning on Delhi train station another driver will pick you up and later day FREE for city tour / shopping. Evening after dinner transfer to Delhi airport.
